THE ASSOCIATION

The Palencia Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago…

It began its journey in 1987, with the aim of “working for the conservation, protection and revitalization of the Camino de Santiago through research and study, in collaboration with Public bodies and Institutions, to promote cultural activities and to develop projects providing information and support for travellers and pilgrims within its area of activity – the province of Palencia”, among other objectives.

Since its beginnings in May 1987, the Association has been led by Ángel Luis Barreda Ferrer, whose word has been supported by an enthusiastic and hard-working Board of Directors, as well as by the collaboration and commitment of its two hundred members.

The Association works in close collaboration with the Centre for Tourism Initiatives of the Camino de Santiago Palentino, whose main purpose is to promote tourism development along the Jacobean route within the province of Palencia.

This Association has the following main objectives (according to Article 1 of its Statutes):

  1. To bring together all those who are interested in the conservation, protection and promotion of the Camino de Santiago, with no limitations other than those established by law.
  2. To encourage the traditional pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, following the medieval route.
  3. To promote the conservation, protection and promotion of the Camino de Santiago.
  4. To foster hospitality in assisting pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
  5. Any other objective related to the above, as may be approved by the General Assembly.
